Building 4PLANET in public

What it actually takes to build a system for ecological action — written honestly, including the parts that are unfinished.

Building 4PLANET in public

I have decided to build 4PLANET in public, which mostly means writing down the parts I would normally hide.

What it is

4PLANET is being built as a system for making ecological action easier to understand, support and scale. Underneath the brand and the design, the real work is a pipeline: a way of moving an action from pledged to verified, so that support flows toward things that actually happen rather than things that merely sound good.

What is hard

The hardest part is not the technology. It is trust architecture — building something where the verification is real enough that a sceptic would accept it, and simple enough that a newcomer would understand it. Those two requirements pull in opposite directions, and most of my time goes into the tension between them.

The second hardest part is restraint. There is enormous pressure, when building anything ecological, to overclaim — to say you are saving the planet. I would rather under-promise and let the verified record speak. It is slower. I think it is the only thing that lasts.

Where it is now

Developing. Real architecture, real design system, growing pieces of the pipeline. Not yet the finished thing. I will keep writing here as it takes shape — including the parts that do not work yet.

If you want to follow the actual build rather than the highlight reel, this journal is the place.
